The castle dates back to at least the 9th century, when it was used by the Moors as a defensive stronghold. Inside the castle, visitors can explore a labyrinth of rooms, including the Chapel of San Clemente and the so-called “Secret Room,” which was used as a torture chamber during the Inquisition. There is also a museum within the castle that features artifacts and exhibits related to the castle’s history and the town of Lorca.
